When writing my book "Parton Party On" I took note of any newspaper references to Lowside Quarter, for future study. The result is a rather random list, but I hope it will get longer and more coherent as time goes on.
- Whitehaven News, 26 Jul 1900, p5 c6: Death aged 90 of James "Jemmy" Hannah of Nethertown, who for 30 years until 1890 ran an old thatched "jerry", which was then pulled down and replaced by the "Tourist Hotel", at which time Jemmy retired.
