MANSFIELD IN THE NEWS
Compiled by David J.Bradbury

"Mansfield in the News" began life as a series of short books, summarising 18th century newspaper items connected with Mansfield in Nottinghamshire. The series stopped, not because of a shortage of material, but because with the opening-up of the newspaper trade in the 19th century, there was too much, and the process of publication was too onerous. This website attempts to help fill that publication gap, and will grow to provide a large resource of the most interesting 19th century news items about the town. Unfortunately, my service providers do not support Search functions, so for the time being you'll have to make do with the "Find in page" facility of your browser. For this reason, the pages will be quite large, often containing 2-3 years' worth of items.
Because the material is taken from library microfilms* rather than the original papers, it is also not, at this stage, practical to include illustrations.

Anybody know an OCR program that works with scratched microfilms of 19th-century newsprint?
