In theory all of Copeland was subject to the power of the Percy family; even powerful families such as the Penningtons being in some respects mere tenants, though described as Freeholders:

Between Ehen & Dudhen. Of the property of the Marquis of Dorset.
Anthony Hudleston Esquire holdeth the Manor of Millam of the Castle of Egremont by homage fealty & suit of court of Egremont from three weeks to three weeks and by the service of one Knight's fee, Seawake and Sergiant's food, to wit, the food of two Sergiants every 9th day at his manor of Millam, and by the rent of 13s 4d of free ferm, at the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whereof is due to the lord for his two parts, to wit, for the part of the Lord Fitzwater, nothing, And for the part of the lord Lucy, nothing.

Between Ehen and Dudhen.
Joseph Pennington (a minor) the heir of William Pennington esquire holds the manor of Mulcaster by homage, fealty and suit of court "from three to three" and the 6th part of a Knight's fee, and by the rent of 8d by year, and for seawake 12d with sergiants food as aforesaid wich is wholly due to the lord of the property of the lord Fitzwaters. 9s 0d.

Between Ehen & Dudhen.
The same Joseph holdeth the hamlet of Ravenglass by the like service and the 12th part of a knights fee, and by the rent of future service 4/- which is wholly due to the lord of the property of the lord Fitzwaters by the year 4s 0d.

The same Joseph holdeth certain lands and tenements in Dreege late Richard Eaglesfield and before that Thomas Wake [etc.]

Richard Irton holdeth Irton [etc.]

Some unusual terms: "moulture and walker" is the Lord of the Manor's monopoly right to payments for corn milling and cloth fulling [aka "walk milling"]; a "paroke" is a small field [the word is related to "paddock"]; a "moiety" is a half share.

2) William Coupland- Knott Lands (3 closes joining the waters of Eske and to Richard Coupland's holding, 9.5a). Total 3/4 yearly

3) now in the hands of the Lord- the fishgarth and fishings at Ravenglass in the river of Eske and the fishings within the river of Irte. Total £3/6/8 yearly

4) John Johnson- tenement house + barn + chamber + 2 garths + croft adjoining (1a) at Ravenglass, the Hy riddinge (close, 1a 1r), arable land in Low riddinges (0.5a), parcel of meadow adjoining last (1.125r), 1 head rigg in Wane riddinge (0.5r), arable land in Stubbank ryddinge (0.5a), 2 little closes near the Tithe barn (2r), arable land in Stainewray (1.5a), 2 closes in the South field (2a 3.5r). Total 5/0 yearly

5) Lancelot Sharpe- tenement house + barn + 2 garths adjoining (0.25r), 3 riggs in the crofts lying betwixt two Lanes (2.25r), Ellice croft (close, 4a), arable land in Langrow field (1a), meadow ground at Waus castle (0.5r), Wawes close (close of meadow, 1a), half of parcel called the Whitewrayes near the fishgarth (1a 1r), Henrye acre (close 4a), Kennin myre (meadow close, 2a), Reedfoorth close (arable, 1r, Southfields & Longfields (2 closes, 6a 3r), arable land in Saltgut rowe (2a 3r), Total 8/1 yearly

"The Lord's tenants in Ravenglass now are (and heretofore have been) accustomed to have common of pasture in Moulcastre fell for the which they now yield and heretofore have been accustomed to yield to the lord of Mulcastre every one of them a boon day in harvest, a boon day in braken time, a boon day for graving an another for bearing of peats and also two of the said tenants either of them to pay yearly 2/- and the third tenant (namely Lancelot Sharpe) 3s 4d"
