Lower Seine valley and Pays de Bray, France
A stay in a tastefully converted farm building allowed us to visit numerous sites along the Seine valley from Paris seawards. This is the first of several selections of pictures. The emphasis here on ruined castles is not accidental; Arques-la-Bataille in 1985 was a glorious place, the epitome of Romantic decay, quite unencumbered by safety barriers and attempts at conservation.
