The palaces and park of Versailles, France

Spring 1985

A stay in a tastefully converted farm building allowed us to visit numerous sites along the Seine valley from Paris seawards. This is the second of several selections of pictures. Versailles on a damp off-season day, its fountains silent and its flowerbeds unmade, was a melancholy place. Only Marie Antoinette's rustic hamlet seemed to suit the weather.
See also the first selection from this trip, of sites nearer the coast.
