Hodbarrow mine and Millom ironworks, Cumbria, UK

Summer 1968, shortly after closure

Continuing the trip around Millom's dead iron industry with my father, I visited the Hodbarrow mine workings, the most impressive features of which were the vast sea-walls, destroyed by the collapse of the worked ground beneath them. The last few of this selection are a few leftovers from the ironworks: follow this link for the main ironworks page and this one to a few of my father's photographs.
