Kendal Record Office document ref. WD/BLT/353, in the collection of the late Bruce Logan Thompson (local agent for the National Trust) is a copy of the printed auction catalogue for "property of SOUTH CUMBERLAND GRANITE CO. used in connection with the RAVENGLASS AND ESKDALE MINIATURE RAILWAY", at the Public Hall, Gosforth, 7 Sep 1960, 3pm; auctioneers Michael C.L. Hodgson of Grange-over-Sands.
Annual traffic statistics: River Esk & River Irt travel upwards of 12,000 miles, carrying upwards of 30,000 passengers.

- next section, to boundary of OS Nos. 88/89 on 1899 edn. [Grid ref. SD128995]. Known as "Penny's Railway Track".
- next section, to Muncaster Mill bridge, inc. Murthwaite Depot, "Valuable Land and Buildings used as Engineering Workshops, Sheds, Storage and Repair Shop...", on which land are c8,000 tons of "quarter inch down Granite Chippings". "2.(a) The title to the real property hereby contracted to be sold shall consist of a Statutory Declaration by Mr. Harry Harold Hilton Justice of the Peace for the County of Cumberland that the Vendor has been in undisputed possession or receipt of the rents and profits as of right without giving any acknowledgment of any right of any other person or corporation thereto for a period of over thirty years...

Kendal Record Office also houses the archives of the Cumbrian Railways Association, including such gems as a copy of a publicity leaflet for the Eskdale railway's 1916 season (general manager John Wills, enquiries to passenger & goods agent H.
